Asset Based Community Development for social inclusion workshop 5 - 6 July

If you live and work in the community, this workshop is for you!

Workshop overview

ABCD is a powerful approach to community development with a particular focus on supporting a productive and inclusive life for people with a disability, older people, marginalised young people, refugees, long term unemployed and people with a mental illness.

Workshop content will Include:

Trainer

Ted Smeaton of Inspiring Communities and the ABCD Institute.  Ted is a passionate presenter who has implemented community building projects throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

Date:       5 - 6 July 2010

Time:       9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Venue:    UnitingCare Community Options, Ground floor, Brandon Office Park, Building 5, 530 - 540 Springvale Rd, Glen Waverly

Cost:       $200.00 full fee.  $50.00 concession card holder.  Cost includes GST and lunch.

Mental Health First Aid Certificate Program 8 & 9 July

This two-day Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) course was developed through Orygen Research Centre and has been delivered nationally.

Program overview

This program provides participants with a clear understanding of mental health and defines the symptoms, causes and evidence-based treatments for the common mental health programs of:

Depression
Anxiety disorder
Psychosis
Substance abuse disorder

Additional learning areas will include:

Mental health in context
Prevalence of mental health problems
Identify the signs and symptoms of prevalent mental health problems
... and more

Facilitator

Rachel Mack's training experience draws on a broad clinical background including working with disadvantaged youth, people with mental health issues, addiction issues and HSA.
