Changing Days Project
‘Changing Days’ - Initiative 1 is a project that aims to increase the confidence, capacity and readiness of people with disability, their family members and wider sector to embrace a new way of thinking about supporting people’s lives. The scope of this project is that of the reorientation of day services in the North West Region and how to better accommodate people with disabilities having the life they want. This work will have a focus on placing people with disability and their loved ones at the centre of decision making about their lives. While supporting professionals to understand the role they might play in helping people to get a better life, and through this work how days services could look different to facilitate this. ‘Changing Days’ is based on an action learning model approach.
‘Changing Days’ will have an interdependent and 3 pronged approach to this work, focussing on the learning leaders (people with disabilities and their families), moulding the shape of the project. ‘Changing Days’ will provide space for these learning leaders to develop a vision of what is a good life for themselves or their son or daughter, and to identify and invite their respective community of choice to be a part of that. Along the way, ‘Changing Days’ will provide opportunities for professionals to engage in thinking differently about what it means to support people and their vision of a good life. These opportunities for learning will come from both formal training and hearing from people with disabilities and their families, with the hope of providing space for honest dialogue and partnership between these groups.
