There are no prerequisites for enrolling in this course. But you will need basic language and literacy skills. We’ll do an LLN (Language literacy and numeracy) assessment to make sure you can read instructions and write basic reports.

Before you start your practical placement, you’ll also need a clear and current Police Check (within 1 year of issue) and a Working with Children Check (WWCC). Don’t worry, we’ll help you get these sorted.

We deliver the Certificate III in Individual Support through a traineeship model to help you put your skills into practice right away. We start with two days of compliance training at one of our training venues. After that, you’ll schedule the rest of the sessions at a time that suits your employer.

With 120 hours of on-the-job training and ongoing coaching and mentoring from experienced trainers, you’ll graduate with the skills you need to start work right away.

*Duration is indicative only and may vary dependent on individual circumstances.

This course includes at least 120 hours of practical placement. After you enrol, we’ll help you find and secure suitable practical placement.

You’ll be assessed on competency using a range of measures, which may include:

  • Demonstrations (for example, role playing, simulations, scenario, face to face or on-the-job observation)
  • Supplementary evidence (for example, signed letters, references, or log books from your supervisor)
  • Multiple choice questions (includes multiple choice, true/false and tick a box questions)
  • Written assessments (includes short answer questions, case studies, reports and projects)
  • Oral discussions and interviews with your trainer (either on the phone or face-to-face)

If you can provide evidence of relevant experience working in the industry or you’ve completed some of the units previously, you may be able to get credit or RPL towards this qualification. This might accelerate your qualification and reduce your fee. You can ask us about RPL or credit transfer when you enrol.

Your trainers are industry experts and still work in the industry. This means that you get up-to-date training and expertise that’s relevant right now. You can expect your trainers to be professional, friendly, and supportive.

Although this qualification will train you for a range of jobs, you don’t have to stop here. After you graduate, you can choose to continue your study and grow your skills with:

  • Certificate IV in Disability
  • Certificate IV in Leisure and Health
  • Certificate IV in Ageing Support
